ADVANTAGES OF TIN PLATING

  • Tin Plated Copper wire is used for manufacturing electrically insulated wire with operating temperature up to 150ºC.
  • ASTM B 33 defines the parameter for Tin Plated Copper Wire.
  • Tin is applied as a pure metal coating to improve solderability of copper conductor.
  • Tin plating is relatively inexpensive when compared with other available options.
  • Tin plated copper wire protect bare copper wire from the corrosion and also allow high Temperature insulation processing, compare to Bare Copper wire. It offer good solderability.

Limitation of Tin Plating

  • Can not be used beyond Rated temperature of 150ºC.
  • Copper Migration to the surface through tin coating with the time makes it to oxidise and degrade solderability even at room temperature.
  • Controlled parameter processing of insulating process is necessary otherwise Tin Plated Copper wire turns blackish.
  • Usually Not recommend for longer life span in open environment.
  • Tin Plated Copper wire have limited shelf life for solderability.
  • Over a period of time.(rate determined by temperature) Tin and Copper interact to form an intermetallic alloy. This reaction occurs even at room temperature. It cannot be prevented by protective covering.
